Alex Honnold’s Angolan Ascension

Alex Honnold’s trip to Angola was multi-pitch—in more ways than one. In addition to tough chimney climbs and first ascents, Alex and his compatriots worked on solar energy projects (through The Honnold Foundation) and land mine removal (with TNF ambassador Stacy Bare).

Given that the scope of this mission extended beyond the realm of climbing, the crew knocked down a surprising amount of routes—that is, until Alex got dreadfully sick on a ledge in the middle of a climb.
