Burton’s No-Nonsense Women’s Snowboard Apparel

When it comes to snowboarding outerwear, most ladies want something versatile, functional and, if possible, fashionable. Luckily, Burton’s apparel line has no shortage of products that meet these requirements. This year’s Burton gear is all about comfort and breathability—without sacrificing the mountain town steeze the Vermont brand has cultivated over decades of dedication to the sport of snowboarding.

Ladies: if you’re looking to stay warm and dry on your search for powder stashes, you can’t go wrong with this Burton apparel.

Burton Women’s Midweight Wool Base Layers

The quick-drying wool blend of Burton’s base layers is perfect for riders unsure of the day’s elements. Forecast suggests things are going to heat up? Don’t sweat it: the crew neck is comfortable on those bluebird days when a turtleneck is out of the question. The wool blend is warm without being exceedingly hot and the fabric is soft; so much so that testers noted that it feels great on the skin in a variety of weather conditions. Plus, the striped print is notably stylish, with the darker green and brown layers providing muted mountain hues and the red stripes adding a pop of color.

Tester Quote: “Not only are these base layers a reliable choice for the resort, they’re also my new favorite pajamas!”

Best For: Everyday layering, coping with all elements in a single day on the slopes

Burton Spellbound GORE-TEX Jacket

Burton Spellbound GORE-TEX Jacket This versatile jacket is awfully practical when compared to the loud styles and patterns that flood the outerwear market, but that’s precisely its appeal—it’s no-nonsense. The Spellbound Jacket is a fully functional piece for snowboarders looking for a longer cut that’s still light and comfortable. Many insulated snowboard jackets have the tendency to feel heavy and overwhelming, but even with its welcome length, the Thermolite-packed Spellbound never seems bulky. When it comes to waterproofing, you can’t beat GORE-TEX, and though this jacket is lower on the warmth rating, its roomy (yet not baggy) design leaves plenty of room for layering on cold days. Plan on layering with thinner layers, as wrist gaiters are snug and not designed to cope with heavy sleeves.

Tester Quote: “My favorite feature by a landslide: the deep pockets on the inside and outside of the jacket. I rarely feel like I have enough room for necessities on the mountain, but this jacket gives me space for everything.”

Best For: Snowboarding in style, everyday resort riding

Burton [ak] Women’s Helium Insulator

Burton [ak] Women’s Helium Insulator The technical level of warmth provided by this insulated jacket blew us away. Developed with legendary, longtime Burton Pro Kimmy Fasani, the Helium kept core temperature regulated on even the chilliest backcountry days. There’s a fine line between creating a puffy that provides focused warmth and one that’s going to make you sweat constantly. Burton hit the mark with their Helium Insulator, using the underarm and side panels for more breathability than your average puffy. The regular fit is comfortable and the lightweight jacket compresses to toss in your backcountry pack. Chilly hike? Dawn patrol mission? Walking around town? The lightweight Helium, Burton’s subtle stab at the puffy, is a flawless winter companion—no matter what your day holds.

Tester Quote: “This jacket has found a place in my everyday rotation of winter wear. I run cold, so I’ve often got the fleece-lined collar zipped to my chin or I’m stuffing my freezing fingers in the hand-warmer pockets.”

Best For: Midwinter layering, backcountry essentials, everyday wear

Burton Women’s Light Hiker Backpack

At 15 liters, this backpack is on the small side, but it packs a real punch. The larger double pockets allowed enough room for a large DSLR camera, extra layers, water, snacks and gloves; and the pack still felt light. The plush back panel lent to extra comfort on a deep powder hike through the backcountry, even when the Light Hiker was carrying all the essentials and keeping a snowboard vertical and motionless the entire duration. The padded waist belt allows you to disperse the weight around your hips and chest so your shoulders won’t take the brunt of the load.

Tester Quote: “The lightweight feel of this backpack is great for a full day on the hill, lapping terrain in the resort or quick tours in the side/backcountry.”

Best For: Day use, lightweight carrying, short hikes
