Holiday Gift Guide: More Camping Products

There’s no reason not to combine adventure with times of fireside reflection. Epic adrenaline output with sipping favorite beverages with friends. Grab ahold of these Active Junky favorites and let the good times flow.

Yeti Hopper Flip: No better beverages

Yeti Hopper Flip Starting at: $186.00

Yes, this soft-sided instrument of insulation is (also) good for solid food, owning the day for up to a week at a time. Carry, tuck, strap and be ready for quick on-water lunches and prepping campfire cuisine off the tailgate. The reliability of Yeti’s zippers along with Flip’s wide-mouth design means quick, repeated access without killing the cooling. While Yeti coolers are definitely in the investment zone, this affordable model is among the most often-used by campers, cabin dwellers and boaters. At 3.1lbs empty, Yeti Hopper Flip loads up 12 beverage cans (with ice) or chill-worthy provisions for two for a multi-day trip.

Best For: All-season use for vehicle-supported outings (car, four-wheeler or boat)

UCO Sweetfire Strikable Fire Starter: Flaming triangles of joy

Beautifully rendered from sugarcane waste, the key material, bagasse, is employed around the world as a worthwhile biofuel. Testers employed some of the 20 points in each box to grill over natural hardwood briquettes at home. The rest found a place at the campsite, with a beefy, sure-striking box strip that requires no supplemental matches (“strikable” in the product name was the first clue). UCO rates burn time at 7 minutes but Active Junky built their bonfires to come to life in less than five minutes. At under $6, there’s no reason not to take a liking to this new style of lighting.

Best For: Home, camp, cabin and paddling trips

Polar Bottle Thermaluxe Vacuum Insulated Bottle: Frequent sippers favorite

Polar Bottle Thermaluxe Vacuum Insulated Bottle Starting at: $39.20

Polar Bottle, based in nearby Boulder, Colorado, has been on Active Junky’s radar for over five years with workmanlike bottle options. This new 21oz model rockets past many competitive options, starting with an 18/8 stainless build capped by their patented Half-Twist cap. This tester-applauded feature works in hot (up to 12 hours) and cold (up to 24 hours) scenarios. We rarely hang on to our drinkables that long in higher, low-humidity conditions here in the Rockies so we’re not the ones to ask on maximums for Thermaluxe. Fitting standard cup holders, this is a stainless steel water bottle that truly fits the active life.

Best For: Everyday commuting, domestic and international travel

Merkware Sprongs: Smarter camping, better cooking

At under 9” long and 1oz, there’s no reason not to do some serious clamping during your glamping. Or to handle food easily with the connectable fork and knife combo rated to 400-degrees. Active Junky favors the spoon’s built-in 1Tbsp volume for campsite culinary exploits. And the locking mechanism goes together quickly even with wet or cold hands. At under $13, Sprongs camping utensils fit in at home (if you’re a Tiny House dweller or resolute minimalist) as well as on the go. Ultra-strong and flexible, testers haven’t been able to test them in extreme cold but expect good things even on the frozen tundra.

Best For: Camp, picnic, cabin and expedition use
