Getting as close to the edge as possible (in this case, paddler-sucking hydraulic features and downriver drops), the Active Junky team leaned on the skills of a quartet of athletes earlier this fall. While flow rates on the Colorado River held back from deadly 20,000 CFS (cubic feet per second) levels, enough challenges remained on the one-mile stretch of water carving through the narrow walls of Glenwood Canyon. According to North Carolina-based director Derek Alan Rowe, “the price of losing focus is pretty high out here.” Advanced Cyberlink editing technology made the most of every frame as paddlers did their level best to ride tall and avoid swimming the frigid maelstrom.
