Telluride Avalanche Dogs: Man’s Best Friend

Man’s best friend. Truer words have never been spoken, especially after watching this heart-warming GoPro video from Telluride. Filmed by Brett Schreckengost, this GoPro Award-winning video depicts the relationship between Telluride Ski Patrol and the avalanche dogs that work on the mountain.

In the backcountry, smart skiers have avalanche safety equipment: it’s foolish to go anywhere without beacon, shovel and probe. However, in-bounds avalanches, though rare, can catch skiers unexpectedly. That’s when these highly trained pooches come in to save the day, sniffing out buried individuals and inevitably saving lives.

Man’s best friend—a phrase especially true when a tail-wagging Labrador pokes her head through the snow and saves your life.
