The Winds of Change: U.S. Has Its First Offshore Windfarm

Wind turbines harness renewable wind energy, and many European countries have been utilizing their gusty coastlines for years. Active Junky feels better-late-than-never as the U.S. joins the offshore wind farm movement after a decade of delays in funding and approvals. Off the coast of Block Island, Road Island, Deepwater Wind recently began development of the first of multiple eco-friendly farms planned for New England’s waterways. This 5-turnbine farm will supply nearly 100% of the island’s power, an encouraging step toward eliminating America’s dependence on fossil fuels. Read more about the wind farm here.
