Helly Hansen Vertex Stretch Hooded Midlayer

Field Notes: Active Junky testers took the Vertex Stretch on the last paddleboard outing of the season when temperatures were hovering in the mid 50s, chilled with a slight breeze and a light on-again, off-again spitting rain. With the moderately inclement weather, Active Junky testers raved about the hoody’s interior comfort when we worked up a sweat, and the hoody’s slick fleece provided exterior water protection from light rain. Thanks to the Vertex’s interior honeycombing, we stayed comfortable despite the varying conditions. The unique patterning forms channels that increase airflow for faster drying and better moisture management. Meanwhile on the exterior, the ultra-smooth, slick finish beads and sheds water, allowing us to stay dry in the light rain. The sleek silhouette and the stretch fabrics are indispensable for those on the move and when dexterity is at a premium. The fitted hood with plenty of stretch fabric makes carrying a hat obsolete.  

Pros: Superior moisture management for working up a sweat in mild weather, with quick-drying interior fabric, and flatlock stitching keeps the hoody from being overly bulky. The fitted cut can easily and comfortably be accompanied by an outer shell.

Cons: Helly Hansen’s Europeans-style fitted cut might be too tight for some. Bigger guys should order one size up, and expect a snug, body-hugging fit.
