Description

The Lite ‘n Fast sleeping pad from High Peak USA is self-inflating with a foam and air floor, and therefore has a larger packed size than sleeping pads that inflate with just air chambers. It has one basic air valve and a mummy shape, keeping things simple yet functional.

The top layer is a 210T polyester square ripstop, with a 0.06mm PU coating; and the bottom layer is non-slip 150D polyester oxford, with 0.06mm PU coating. Polyurethane diamond cut foam provides the base. This is really your basic, self-inflating pad with a decent weight and relatively poor packability to about the size of a gallon of milk. At the same time, it’s very durable and you won’t bounce off of it like some taller inflating pads.

Universal Attributes

Performance: 2.5
The brand doesn’t state an R-value for this pad, but overall we found it not that warm, slightly bulky to carry in a backpacking pack and without a lot of bang for the buck. At only 1 inch off the ground, it’s about as warm as the Therm-a-Rest closed cell foam pads.

Design: 3
Again, nothing fancy here, compared to what else is out there. It’s a basic mummy shape, self-inflating with one valve, and not a lot of padding or inflation.

Durability: 5
The Alpinizmo is a very durable pad, and testers felt confident it could last them numerous seasons.

Innovation: 2
Nothing too special to speak of, but you get baseline, average tech.

Features: 3
Basic feature set. One old-school style valve that seems very durable but is basic, with a self-inflating foam and nylon shell.

Universal Tests

Comfort test: Ummm, no. Testers were disappointed in results of this test, as it was not comfortable at all.

Weighted overnight test: Unlike the comfort test, it performed well when fully weighted.

Durability test: No doubts about its durability.

Re-pack test: It is not the easiest to deflate and repack, and unless all air is out and you work carefully to roll it back up tight, it won’t fit back in its provided stuff sack.

Inflation speed test: Fewer than 15 breaths for full inflation, so one of the quicker pads we reviewed to inflate.

Packed size test: About the size of a gallon of milk, a little big for lightweight backpacking.
