ENO Sub7 Hammock Review

The ENO Sub7 Hammock is the lightest hammock on the market. Weighing in at 6.5 ounces and the size of a large fist when compacted, it’s perfect for those looking for an ultralight sleeping system or just to inject some lounge time into their next backpacking adventure. ENO’s ultralight Helios suspension system compliments the minimalist simplicity of the Sub7 perfectly and makes for a tiny, lightweight package.

Setup

Eagles Nest Outfitters Sub7 Hammock $46.79 - $53.73 The Helios suspension system utilizes two ropes and a friction system for adjustability. Testers were skeptical about the integrity of the friction-based system at first, but have had absolutely no issues. The attached carabineers on the Sub7 are lightweight and high-quality. Setup takes less than two minutes with any knowledge of the suspension system, and less than five your first time. ENO has handy instructions built into the suspension system bag that make setup easy. After you’re done, the whole package, suspension system included, can fit into the built-in stuffsack of the Sub7 for a compact package to toss in your pack.

Comfort

The Sub7 is designed to minimize weight, and as such it is thinner than most hammocks. You won’t be able to stretch out like you would in other ENO offerings like the DoubleNest, but that’s not surprising given the design intentions of this hammock. The ultra-thin nylon is tough, but thin, so layer up or bring a pad if you’re planning on sleeping in the Sub7 in colder temps. Overall, the material reduction used to get the weight down doesn’t sway our testers from recommending the Sub7

Bottom Line

The ENO Sub7 hammock is incredibly lightweight, and opens up the possibility of bringing a hammock on extended trips where the excess weight might not have been worth it before. For ultralight campers looking for a sleeping solution and willing to compromise slightly on comfort, it’s a no-brainer.
