New from Hydro Flask is a series of insulated hydration packs they are calling the Journey Series. If you have ever had your hydration pack out for many hours only to have the water inside heat up to almost undrinkable temperatures, this is the solution you’ve been waiting for. An innovative insulated reservoir and neoprene sleeve with a reflective lining inside the pack make sure your water is going to stay ice cold for over 4 hours. Testers found the insulation to work quite well from long hikes in the red rock desert of Moab, Utah to the sun-exposed single track on Colorado’s Front Range mountain bike trails. After many miles and hours, the water stayed cold and was a welcome refreshment along the trail.
The backpack itself is anything you could ever want in a mountain bike. The articulated mesh back panel provides both comfort and breathability. The waterproof coated fabric, zippers and taped seams create a weather resistant pack that’ll keep your contents dry when you get caught out in a sudden downpour. Hip and sternum straps keep the pack tight to your back as you are ripping singletrack. We tested the 20L version of this pack, which has plenty of space for an all-day adventure on the trails. However, the lightweight and close fitting nature of the pack means even if you aren’t packed for a full day the pack sits well and is comfortable for those quick after work laps. Overall this pack does what it claims, it keeps your water cold on those hot rides and hikes, stays comfortable on your back and carries all those trail essentials.
