Travis Rice is one of the most talented and influential snowboarders ever to strap in. The Jackson Hole native has been the driving force behind two limit-obliterating snowboarding movies. He’s revolutionized competition formats and stood atop as many first descents as he has first place podiums.
From badass leather gloves and backcountry backpacks to a variety of jackets and pants, the Travis Rice Quiksilver line has it all. Whether you’re filming your own next level movie or you’re still getting warmed up, look to Quik for the ultimate comfort and style enjoyed by the world’s best.
Quiksilver Travis Rice Roger That Snowboard Jacket From the get-go, Roger That’s most blaring feature is the psychedelic brushwork of Travis’s friend and board graphic designer Mike Parillo. While a standout element, the pattern highlights only the chest, back and zipper in the Stripe version (shown here). Once you take in the intoxicating trimmings, take this jacket where it belongs: the resort. An insulating layer of 60g Thinsulate 3M adds a welcome heft to the 15K waterproof jacket, making it ideal for chilly days. When testers slashed their way through hidden tree stashes, white waves were denied entry thanks to the powder skirt. “I love the weight of it,” said one tester, still breathless from a quad-burning foray into Copper Mountain’s evergreens, “Plus the pit zips, big pockets and wide, Velcro cuffs make it an ideal resort jacket.” While Roger That is far from Quiksilver’s most technical jacket, testers were impressed, especially after seeing the surprisingly low price tag.
Quiksilver Dark And Stormy Snowboard Pants While not technically part of the Travis Rice line, the Dark and Stormy pants pair extremely well with the Roger That jacket, both in terms of fit and function. The distressed, faded and waxed fabric looks amazing and performs well, as the 100% nylon/polyamide pant shed snow and slush with ease. A 15K waterproof/breathable rating further solidified testers appreciation of Quiksilver’s latest, especially when standing around in freezing temps, waiting for the cameraman to get into position. “The slim style is what really gets me,” said a tester as he brushed freshly fallen fluff from the twill fabric. “The texture of the pants, the pockets and the sealed zippers with the leather ties – it’s well-thought-out.”
Travis Rice Natural GORE-TEX® Gloves When testers first tried on these gloves motoring up to the mountains, they felt like getaway drivers on their way to a heist. Riveted studs (think miniature ice scrapers), a zipped cuff and a Travis Rice logo accent the black leather. While we wouldn’t recommend these gloves on a sizzling spring day, when Colorado snowstorms struck, this Quiksilver and GORE-TEX collaboration delivered. In the words of a stoked gear tester, “They’re super warm, but I’ve worn super warm gloves before. The thing is, I’ve never before worn super warm gloves that are also low profile and actually look good.” Pair the supple grip, comfort and durability of leather with the GORE-TEX outer and these gloves are Active Junky approved – hands down.
