From the backcountry of Crested Butte to blustery resort days in Summit County, the Wasatch 800 Fill Down Jacket proved its worth to our gear testers. Whether you’re cruising around town or breaking the bootpack up a couloir, the Wasatch’s warmth-to-weight ratio, layer-friendly contoured fit and compressibility make it a compact and reliable piece. The only caveat: we’re two months in to testing and the down is leaking—fast. Hopefully, this slows down as the jacket continues to wear in… Aside from leaky down, this jacket is stylish enough for the city (the “raisin” colorway is surprisingly suave), lightweight enough for long tours and warm enough to be your primary insulator on thermometer-shattering days in the mountains. Also, it’s worth noting that most 800-fill insulators are going to be more expensive than the current price of this B&R piece.
