Field Notes: In calm or choppy water, iSUP moved through the blue effortlessly. Perhaps that’s because the Body Glove legacy is one of waterborne excellence, turning flat and tidal bodies into a playground for the daring. Here, tracking ranked above average with a trio of smaller, permanent fins that still allowed easy turning with minimal to moderate effort. Absent any sensation of chattering or energy-sucking drag, iSUP was a delight in varied inland water conditions. The 11’ length proved to be an excellent balance of load-bearing capacity and maneuverability. Center decking was the most comfortable of inflatable paddleboards tested and didn’t build up heat even in the blistering Rocky Mountain late afternoon sun. While supremely comfortable, changing foot position, kneeling or sitting on the deck was unencumbered. Even with the triple layer stringer that promotes stiffness, the board needed to be properly inflated for highest performance, a chore made somewhat tougher with the starter pump included in the package. Otherwise, the trampoline effect sets in (not the board’s fault). In addition, the trio of integrated fins need some “cooking” in the sun after long periods of storage. That’s because their more flexible nature helps to avoid cracking and breakage during use but means greater susceptibility to deflection during rolled storage. Graphics are energizing and don’t feel promotional at all as the BodyGlove brand and vibe are more energizing than distracting. And don’t make the paddler feel like they don’t belong in the least.
Pros: Package inclusions, including the three-piece paddle and superior zippered case (better than 90% of what AJ experienced), make for total portability, six-point bungee system ideal for day trips and beyond
Cons: Pump is worth an immediate upgrade, testers wanted a big D-ring attachment point at the stern
Tester Comments: “Active Junky testers see 34” wide iSUP as a terrific way to experience day touring and overnight SUP camping as the length and surface area preclude longer trips (heavier loads). The front action camera attachment point is brilliant, whether the focus is on the paddler behind, the view ahead or the water below. We couldn’t get over the quality of the paddle and leash that came with the board. The paddle is a decent package inclusion that gives occasional paddlers plenty of use and more performance-oriented owners a starting point to evaluate aftermarket options. The leash exceeded expectations from an all-in package and testers assigned this to BodyGlove’s on-water credentials; easy on with enough security for recreational paddlers. The dry pouch is a nice addition.”
Key Attribute: Stability
Best For: Best value of all SUPs tested for overall use by a variety of paddlers (skill levels and sizes) as well as varying paddling conditions at under 24lbs
