Sorry, but we can’t make this stuff up. Two brother, Peter and Paul (Pinholster), decide to abandon cubicles in favor of van cruising the East Coast. Starting small-scale production in Florida circa 1999, their hammocks turn up at music festivals and events as their travels take them mile after mellow mile. Too much demand (right on) and an overfull van lands the duo in Asheville, North Carolina. Active Junky testers, after repeated sessions with DoubleNest, understand the market’s enthusiasm for their products and their nearly-prescient anticipation of the growing hammock movement. While some models advance a fairly civilized hammock experience, products such at the DoubleNest Hammock turn two backcountry trees into suitable overnight accommodations. A perennial bestseller, D-Nest handles up to 400lbs, then disappears back into a micro-sized 5”x 5” stuff sack. Reinforcing the camping hammock’s wilderness credentials, triple-seaming and aluminum wiregate carabiners resist abrasion and some level of abuse. Once again, Active Junky recommends this 19oz nylon wonder for a single sleeper, knowing (the right) two can combo up as needed. 70D high tenacity nylon taffeta is well-matched to the challenge and supports the 9’4” x 6’2” ENO hammock (unstuffed, flat size). 

Pros: Construction quality is extraordinary, panelized sizes allow easy entry and exit, attachment points indisputable

Cons: Taller campers (over 6’0” will struggle), two-person use best for smaller-framed and lighter occupants

Tester Comments: "The brand’s reputation is well-deserved. With entry-level models (pun intended) under $70, plenty of choices fit anybody’s scenario. I’m a fan of DoubleNest as, at 6’4”, I can go more diagonal to fit inside the hammock. Carabiners rated high, and this model is strong and secure to tension it more (stretch it out) for a more horizontal sleeping experience. ENO’s accessories are tuned to work with their products, including the AirLoft Hammock Mattress (not tested yet) for about $100.”
