Quiksilver AG47 Boardshorts

This is the first boardshort review that’s ever warranted it’s own article. We’ve been living in Quiksilver’s AG47 Boardshorts nearly every weekend this summer, and such divine elasticity merits waxing poetic. 

Reinventing the Wheel:

Remember: Quiksilver’s been knee-deep in the boardshorts game for over four decades now, longer than most of their followers have walked – or surfed – the planet. With release of the AG47, Quik’s oracular ad campaign touts “The Boardshort, Reinvented.” 

As much as we love Quiksilver on snow and sand, we had a couple questions for the AG47.  Does it truly “reinvent” the category, the one-dud wardrobe of dudes from Paia, Maui to Perth, Australia?  Most importantly, is it worth the mind-boggling $125 price tag?

Answers to these, the toughest of life’s questions, appeared from the moment we hit our first waves in these boardies.

Fabric: Nothing Short of Paradise

This ultra-strong material is paradisiacal, as lightweight and stretchy as a silk hammock strung between Panamanian palms. Most boardshort manufacturers laud “quick-drying fabric” as a technical spec. Few come close to AG47’s dry times. The Dry Flight fabric is treated with a hydrophobic coating to shed water even faster, so you’ll drip dry long before your next bluewater moment.

Design: Futuristic and Simplistic

Quiksilver laser cut and heat welded all seams. Smooth, clean angled lines complement the strong, chafe-free performance of the Dry Flight fabric. Design elements like the reflective logo, off-color cinch and a futuristic waistband set off the two-tone colorways. Though stylish, it’s clear AG47’s focus is on in-ocean functionality.

Bottom Line:

Active Junky testers languished poolside in Denver, hucked backflips off Rocky Mountain cliffs, surfed in the Pacific and cooled off in the Atlantic. Double the price of commodity boardshorts, AG47 lives for endless summers. Go dawn ‘til dusk in these boardies, with intermittent swims and/or surf sessions. Own the hammock. Dominate the grill. 

The comfortable stretch and unparalleled dry time of the AG47 can’t be beat for those who make their own waves.
