Field Notes: We like it when shoe companies pay attention to the anatomical shape of the foot. Treksta and its innovative NestFit System has been praised by Active Junky before, but didn’t quite make the cut for speed and agility. This time we’re stoked on more than just fit: the Trail Wave offers a lighter and faster runner that is just as comfortable and just as stable with the same NestFit performance, and is why we named it one of our top picks: winner of best value women’s trail running shoe.

With less bulk and weighing in an ounce lighter than previously available Treksta Wave model, the Mega Wave, the Trail Wave also focuses on the little nuances that make a performance trail shoe a success: the quick lace system adjusts with just a pull for quick adjustments, and the Dual Density Hypergrip provides more bite for that unruly terrain. And while seemingly insignificant, the protective toe cap Treksta provides is one of our favorite features when cruising over rocky and choppy trails.

Tester Comments: “This Treksta running shoe is uber comfortable on the trail and responds with every change of direction and terrain. The quick lace system is a nice touch to becoming a more efficient and aggressive trail shoe. Note, Active Junky testers found going a half size down fits best.”

Pros: The anatomically correct NestFit and 8mm drop makes these a comfortable shoe to run or hike long miles in. The Hypergrip tread along with being on the lighter side make this an agile and competitive shoe on the trail. 

Cons: While not necessarily a negative for everyone, this shoe is made in and imported from Canada rather than American-based production.
