De Souza Wins the World Surf League Title at Pipeline

A fiery end to a historic year for the World Surf League. Going into the final event on the Men’s Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour, the famed Billabong Pipe Masters, there were 6 potential champions:  Owen Wright (AUS), Mick Fanning (AUS), Julian Wilson (AUS), Filipe Toledo (BRA), former champion Gabriel Medina (BRA) and this year’s champ, the calculated assassin Adriano De Souza (BRA).

Adriano De Souza trumped Hawaiian local Mason Ho in the semis, clinching the title. After a joyful albeit brief celebration, he had to get back in the water to take on his dangerous countryman Medina.

The two Brazilians have fought their way to the finals consistently this year, and what a way to finish it off. De Souza capitalized on his meteoric momentum, taking home the coveted Pipe Masters trophy, a one-of-a-kind surfboard hand-shaped by a former Pipe champion.

Congrats to the 2015 World Champion. Brazil will be partying tonight
