Description

Residing somewhere between the chill out zone and extreme (non-climbing) pursuits, the Kammok Roo carries its weight with a 500lb rated capacity. Really. Kammok’s proprietary LunarWave diamond weave ripstop polyester won’t stop a truck but it will handle heavier campers without bulging, stretching or tearing out in the event of a small cut or unseen abrasion. Testers subjected the Roo to rain and dew to verify Kammok’s claim of fast-drying. As a result, Active Junky says “go get wet and be blessed” as major rainstorms of up to 1.5” of precip failed to soak the hammock to the point of being waterlogged. A few hours of light breeze later, all was good and dry. The Nakuru Blue model tested felt at home in the trees with enough visibility to find it in the dark. At 24oz with carabiners, the Roo’s 10’ length and 5’7” width tackles campers up to 6’6” (conservatively). Testers valued the multiple gear loops along both sides. And see them as ways to create sidewalls, capped off on top with a tarp by using stringers to secure the fabric (but without taking body weight off the hardy hammock itself). For more all-conditions use, Kammok offers an optional Dragonfly 360-Degree Insect Net along with the Glider All-Weather Shelter tarp. Python Straps are their optional tree-hugging anchors that take advantage of the camping hammock’s Dyneema slings and 23kN climbing-rated carabiners (included with the Kammok Roo).

Pros: Rated for two occupants but exemplary for one (space-wise), durability capable well beyond casual use

Cons: None

Tester Comments: “This is what I’m talking about. Bomber fabric and construction that gives me years of hard use head. Figuring out the best way to use gear loops is a good drifting-off-to-sleep project. But you’ll run out of time fast as the Roo’s enveloping comfort means shut-eye comes fast. Knowing the baseline engineering is so dialed made it easier to switch from tent to Roo on some of my first hammock overnighters.”

Key Attribute: Packability with the high-compression stuff sack included

Best For: All modes of travel, moderate conditions unless paired with mosquito netting and tarp
