September’s come and gone, summer’s said sayonara. And while we certainly miss the warm weather and long nights, we don’t lament the changing of seasons. The truth is, we’re amped on autumn. We love crisp, sunny days on uncrowded trails, the falling leaves, the first snowfalls. And most of all, we love busting out our cozy gear—we’re talking sweats and corduroys, flannels and fleece, boots and slippers. Below, you’ll find a few of our favorite fall essentials for both men and women from beloved brands like Toad & Co., Forsake, and Glerups. Best of all? Fall means ski season is right around the corner, and these Active Junky gear picks will keep you toasty all winter long, too.
Toad & Co. Re-Form Flannel Starting at: $76.76
If we had to pick a single brand to supply us with all of our casual clothing, we’d pick Toad & Co. over and over again. The versatile Re-Form Flannel is yet another well-executed reminder of why we’re so smitten with this sustainably-minded outdoor brand: the velvety fabric is nothing short of perfection. A blend of recycled cotton and recycled polyester, the fabric isn’t too light or too heavy, but rather possesses a Goldilocks level of poise. The Re-Form can be worn as a standalone flannel or left unbuttoned over an undershirt—either way, we bet you’ll be fired up on both the feel and the fashion.
Toad & Co. Ziggy Hoodie Starting at: $157.58
Basically, the Ziggy is a classy version of the classic “drug rug”—think Spicoli, but instead of being a wave-chasing high-school burnout, our fearless hero happens to code for a startup and pedals a fixie to the climbing gym after work. All jokes aside, this plush poncho is crafted from ultra-soft 100% non-mulesed wool. With three buttons up the front, a meticulously hemmed hood, and an offbeat striped pattern, the humanely produced Ziggy is not only the coziest hoodie we’ve ever worn but also a magnet for compliments.
Toad & Co. Cruiser Cord Skinny Pant Starting at: $86.36
Cold weather and corduroy and go together like rainstorms and movie nights, blizzards and hot tubs. Whether you’re brandishing an umbrella and braving the city or curling up fireside with a mug of mulled wine, these slim-fitting, mid-rise corduroys are a must. Not only is the bulk of the fabric a soft, sultry organic cotton, but Toad & Co.’s added a touch of elasticity for a welcome stretch. Throw in a form-fitting waistband and these corduroys are likely to become the most comfortable and (depending on the colorway you select) versatile pants in your autumn arsenal.
It’s tough to craft a pair of sweats that’s stylish enough to be worn out and about, but Toad & Co.’s done it with the Epiq Joggers. It’s not tough, however, to wear the Epiq Joggers day in and day out—we’ve done that for the entirety of October. The hemp and organic cotton fabric isn’t too soft—it’s comfortable, hefty, and more durable than you’d expect. When the aforementioned fabric is paired with stylish stitching and a vintage fade, the result is an everyday pair of joggers that’s equally suited for a casual Saturday night or a lazy Sunday morning.
Forsake Patch Boot $143.21 - $143.96
We’ve been fans of Forsake’s stylish, durable boots pretty much since the brand launched in 2012. And in 2019, Forsake’s lineup is their best yet, with plenty of options for both men and women. One of our favorite women’s boots, the Patch, is a high-top style with a waterproof suede body and a chunky beige outsole that’s begging to hit the trail. Classic Forsake details—leather embellishments, burly metal eyelets, and patterned laces—solidify the Patch as a sharp choice no matter the adventure. Whether you’re looking to go for a hike or paint the town, the Patch is ready for the task at foot.
Glerups Slip-On Slipper $90.25 - $91.16
Originally hand-crafted in 1993 by a Scandinavian grandma, Glerups are our go-to slippers. The thick, all-natural wool felt is warm and cushioning, and Glerups offers several styles in both calfskin and rubber soles. We recommend calfskin if you’re exclusively relying on the Glerups for indoor use, but if there’s a chance of taking the dog out for a walk or throwing these on after a day of skiing, go with rubber. While the style is admittedly a bit goofy, you won’t give two hoots about how you look once you start rocking these dreamy slippers. Every single time we put them on, we sigh with satisfaction, do a small jig, and send thanks to the grandma who started it all.
