Active Junky is a big proponent of “truth in labeling,” so we’re troubled to learn that, while food must meet certain requirements to sport a USDA Organic logo, no such certification process exists with non-food items. And there is no uniform definition of what constitutes “organic,” leaving confusion — and a lack of clear standards — between food industry organic standards and non-food items. Groups including the Organic Trade Association are pressuring the FTC to set requirements for non-food organic certification, calling for transparency and consistency when labeling anything "organic."
